Welcome to Gothenburg!
...and very welcome to the 20th Conference of the European Association of Psychology and Law. It is our ambition that this meeting will take us a few steps towards a positive legal psychology—the overarching theme of the conference.
Positive legal psychology encompasses all psychological research oriented towards promoting accuracy and bolstering strengths in legal settings. Although this approach is not new—the list of constructive and progressive research presented at past EAPL meetings is both long and impressive—we think it is fair to argue that legal psychology has been largely occupied with identifying biases, mapping errors and describing miscarriages of justice. Monitoring and reacting to injustice will always be an important task for legal psychologists, but we believe it is time to fully acknowledge positive legal psychology as a parallel and complementary trajectory. Hence, the main objective of EAPL 2010 will be to highlight and encourage research aimed at solving problems, preventing harm, and building competence.
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to Gothenburg, a city known for its hospitality, its maritime heritage, and its picturesque ocean-side scenery. In June, when the city is at its most beautiful, we hope that a visit to EAPL 2010 will give you a both inspiring and enjoyable experience.
